Fall Classic Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The exciting extended matchup where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million viewers in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English program in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series recorded 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total US average reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
