Catherine's Annual Festive Service of Carols Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The large audience will listen to a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The central message of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the trust, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be people from various age groups.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
